34 was freeborn and raised in Kent County and is now about twenty years of age said Sarah Jane is of a black complexion about four feet ten and a quarter inches high and has a small scar over each eye Witness my hand this twenty second day of May Eighteen hundred and fifty J. R. Gudgeon Filed and recorded on the 22nd day of May 1850 and a certificate of freedom issued to the said negro Sarah Jane Scott By Jos Redue Clk of Kt Co Cot Md Joseph Redue Esq Sir William Brown a negroe wishes to procure his freedom passes he was born in this County and his Mother is a free woman and always has been You will have his papers ready against I get to Town on wednesday next so that he may go in the steam boat that day I will certify to to it at the time of the delivery yours &c Joseph Redue Esq Meritt Miller May 20th 1850 To the Clerk of Kent County Court This is to certify that a negro man named William Brown now present and applying for a certificate of freedom is the son of a negro woman named Mary Brown whom I have Known for many years as a free woman and that the said William Brown was freeborn and raised in Kent County witness my hand this 23rd day of May 1850 Witness J. F. Gordon her Mary + Ashley mark The said William Brown is now about twenty three years old to the best of my Knowledge her witness J. F. Gordon May 23rd 1850 Mary x Ashley mark The said William Brown is five feet six and a half inches high is of a Black complexion and has a scar from a burn on the back of his right hand has a lump on the back of each hand resembling meus near where they join to the wrist and has a scar from a burn on the left arm below the elbow Jos Redue Clk K.
