2 To the Clerk of Kent County Court I hereby certify that Samuel Derry free man of Color now between twenty one and twenty two years of age is the son of free parents his father and Mother having both been free long before the said Samuel Derry was born his fathers name is James Derry and his Mothers name Eliza Derry the said Samuel Derry was raised in Kent County and brought up to farming Edward Comegys 1849 July 31st Filed and Recorded July 31st 1849 and certificate of Freedom issued as follows Maryland Kent County to wit: Pursuant to the directions of an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at November session Eighteen hundred and five I hereby certify to all persons whom it doth or may concern that it has this day been proved by testimony satisfactory to me that a certain Samuel Derry the bearer hereof was born of a free woman and that he was raised in said County and brought up to farming the said negro is five feet six inches in height between twenty one and twenty two years of age of light complexion and has a scar partly over the left eyebrow (seal of) In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name (Kent County) and affix the seal of Kent County Court the thirty (Court Maryland) first day of July in the year Eighteen hundred and forty nine Joseph Redue Clk of Kent County Court Issued and Recorded on the 31st of July 1849 By Jos Redue Clk To the Clerk of Kent County Court I hereby certify that Alexander Riley free Man of color now between twenty one and two years of age is the son of Araminta Ringgold a free woman and who was also born free she was born and has always lived in Kent County and her son the said Alexander Riley was born and has always lived in said County and was brought up to the farming business Hugh Wallis August 1st 1849 |
