13 high of a lightish complexion was born free and raised in Kent County ( seal of ) In testimony whereof I hereto set my (Kent County ) hand and affix the seal of Kent (Court Maryland) County Court this 21st day of September Eighteen hundred and forty nine Joseph Redue Clerk of Kent for Proof see the certificate to James Potts freedom County Court Maryland Issued and recorded on the 21st of September 1849 By Joseph Redue Clerk To the Clerk of Kent County Court This is to certify that negro Elizabeth Sheppard who is now present is the identical person mentioned in a deed of Manumission executed by me this 26th september 1849 and which is filed this day of record Martha Brice Sept 26th 1849 Filed and recorded September 26th 1849 and certificate of freedom issued as follows Maryland Kent County to wit I Joseph Redue Clerk of Kent County Court hereby certify to all whom it doth or may concern that it appears by the records of Kent County aforesaid that a certain Martha Brice of the said County by her certain deed of Manumission bearing date on the twenty sixth day of September Eighteen hundred and forty nine did manumit, liberate, set free and discharge from slavery a negro woman named Elizabeth Sheppard now about thirty eight years of age I further certify that a negro woman now present (the bearer hereof) now called and known by the name of Elizabeth Sheppard aged about thirty eight years five feet one inch and one quarter of an inch high of a dark complexion has |
