Eliza Harman
Somerset County ss     The Jurors for the Right honourable the Lord Proprietary
that now is for the Body of Somerset County afd upon their Oath do
present that Elizabeth Harman late of all Hallows Parish in
the County afd Spinster the first Day of December in the year of our
Lord God seventeen hundred thirty and three at the parish afd in the
County afd within the Juridiction of this Court did commit Fornication
with a certain person to the Jurors afd unknown and did promit the same
unknown person then and there to have carnal Knowledge of her Body
and to beget then and there a bastard Child on the Body of her the same
Elizabath Harman to the high Displeasure of almighty God to the evil
Example of all others in such Case offending contrary to the peace of
the said Lord proprietary that now is his Good Rule and Government
and against the form of the act of assembly in Such Case lately made and provided &a
Test               On the backside of the foregoing Bill of Indictment it was thus Endorsed Billa vera
Samuel Wilson foreman
                                                                            Thereupon Command was given to the Sheriff of
Somerset County that he should take the said Elizabeth Harman if &.a to answer &.a and afterwards to
to witt the ninteenth day of august ann.o Dom One thousand Seven hundred and thirty five before the
Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset nowhere held at dividing Creek in the same County
came the said Eliza Harman in her proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment afd and being
Instantly demanded how She would acquitt her selfe of the premisses afd as by the Indictment afd
above upon her is Imposed says that she is Guilty thereof &a

       Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here seen heard and fully understood it
seems to the Court here that the afd Eliza Harman is a black woman and does not Come within the
Intent of the act of assembly to punnish such persons being Guilty of Fornication &a

       Thereupon it is Considered that by the Justices here that the afd Eliz.a Harman be thereof
quiet and go without day &a   Likewise it is Considered that the afd Eliza Harman give Security for
to pay all the Officers Fees due by Occasion of the premisses afd upon the Indictment afd   thereupon
William Lane of Somerset County Gent present here in Court undertook for the Said Eliza Harman
to pay the Severall Officers Fees due as afd upon the Indictment afd &a

Command was given to the Sheriffe of Somerset County that he Should take William
Mister if &.a to answer &a and afterwards to witt the ninteenth day of August ann.o
Dom One thousand seven hundred and thirty five before the Justices of his Lordships
County Court of Somerset now here held at dividing ^Creek^ in the same County Came the said
