62 Constable that I was set levy free nor could I prevail on y.e then Constable Timothy Attkinson to leave me out of the list of taxables altho' I still remain'd unable to get my bread which is well known to many of my Neigbours and may be easily discerned by any person that will Cast their eye upon me I have been with M.r Hayward to know if any Entry was made concerning me but cannot hear of any your Worships Compassion on your poor pettitioner in my present distress will lay me under the Stricktest obligation as in duty bound to pray William Bowen the petition afd being read and heard and fully understood and Mature deliberation thereupon had Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the afd William Bowen be discharged from paying of Levies untill such time as pleas God restore him to his former state of health or untill Such time as he shall be able Labour to discharge his Leavies &.a
in the wars In Germany (Flanders France England Scotland & other places from the 17.th year of his age to the 39.th 12 years In the Regiment of the Royall Brittish Draggoons under the late Duke of Marleborough 6 years in the Regiment of Coll William Kerr 4 years in the Regiment of Gen: Whitham your humble Petitioner humbly desireth to be cleared from paying taxes having neither house nor land in this Country & never haveing paid any taxes your worships granting this request your humble Petitioner shall ever pray The petition aforesaid being Read and heard and fully understood and mature deliberation thereupon had Wherefore it is Considered by the Court here that the said Richard Harwood befor the future Levy Free as by the petition afd is praid &a Richard Nicholson of wickacomoco in Somerset County being ancient and infirm and past his Labour at the prayer of some Gent in his behalfe he is adjudged Levy Free for the future as by the request aforesaid is praid &a Edmond Hough of Somerset County Gent is discharged from paying of Levys for his negro man George for the future the said negro being ancient and Infirm &a John Pope of Somerset County planter is discharged by the Court from paying of Levys for Rose an Indian slave of his who is adjudged by the Court here to be ancient and Infirm &a |
