191 to the Jurors afd unknown and did permitt the same unknown person then and there to have Carnall knowledge of her body and to begett then & there a bastard Child on the body of her the same Ann to the high displeasure of almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord Propry his good rule & Government and against the form of the act of assembly in such Case Lately made and provided &a Test Thomas Walker On the backside of the foregoing bill of Indictment it was thus Endorsed vizt Billa Vera Edmond Hough Foreman Thereupon Command was given to the sheriff of Somerset County that he should take said Ann Jarvis if &.a to answer &.a and afterwards to witt the fifteenth day of June anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and thirty Six before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset now here held at dividing Creek in and for the Same County Came the said Ann Jervice in her proper person and says that of the premisses afd she is guilty thereof but hath not wherewithall to pay her fine for the fact afd Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the afd Ann Jervice be whipt at the publick whiping post with fifteen Stripes on the Bare back well Laid on untill the blood appear and that she be taken &a thereupon as to the Corporall punishment afd Command is given to the sher of Somerset County that he do thereof ^should^ take he take the said Ann Jervice to the publick Whiping post and there give her fifteen Stripes on the Bare Back well Laid on untill the blood appear and afterwards in the Same Court Came the said sheriff and made return that as to the Corporall punishment afd as by the Judgm.t afd rendered by whiping of the afd Ann Jervice he had Done the Execution thereof &.a and thereupon the said Ann Jarvice is ordered to return into her Mistress's Service to witt Mr Alice Ellis and she to return her to the County Court of Somerset for the Sheriff of said County at the Expiration of her Servitude to reemburst to the said County the Severall Officers their Fees due by occasion of the premisses afd &a
day of June in the year of our Lord God seventeen hundred thirty and six before Robert King Esq.r and his associates the said Lord proprietary his Justices of the same County Court and for the same Lord proprietary doth give the same Justices hereto understand and be informed that Richard Gore late of Coventry Parish in the County af.d Labourer the twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord God seventeen hundred thirty and five at the parish af.d in the County af.d and within the Jur of this court then an Inhabitant of this province of Maryland being did sell by retail to William Bennett of the same County planter one Gill of Brandy and one Gill of Rum at and for a price differing from and greatly exceeding the then common and usual Rate and price of such Liquors between Merchants and others to wit for the sum of Six pence Current money of Maryland for each Gill to be drank in the dwelling house of the said Richard Gore at the parish af.d in the County af.d and within the said Jur being and about the plantation of him the same Richard Gore to (the) |
