17 petition as aforesaid and your petitioner as in duty bound shall ever pray Joseph Jones The petition aforesaid being read and heard and fully understood and Mature deliberation thereupon had wherefore it is Considered that the aforesaid Andrew Smith be Overseer and Clear a road from Madm Hamptons plantation to George Trewitts ditch as by the petition aforesaid is praid &a
after which time he sold me to Francis Harper for three Years and nine months which time being two Years more than I should serve according to the Custom of the Country and having Served five Years I hope your worships will take it into Consideration (being held by Francis Harper) to discharge your petitioner having noe Indenture against me and your petitioner will be in duty bound to pray Mary Tanner Thereupon Command was given to the sheriff of Somerset County County that he should Somons the afd Francis Harper and William Eskridge if they should be found in his baily wick that all Excuses sett apart they be and appear before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset now here held at dividing Creek this eighteenth day of march anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and thirty four to answer the petition afd of the afd Mary Tanner &a after wards to witt the Same day and Year afd in the Same Court Came the said Sheriff to witt Joseph McClester Gent and made return that he had sumoned the said Francis Harper and W.m Eskridge as by the preceipt afd he was Commanded &a Whereupon Came hereinto Court ^as well^ the afd Francis Harper and William Eskridge in their proper person as the afd petitioner and whereupon the said William Eskridge prays that the said Mary Tanner may be remanded back into the service of her master Francis Harper and he would make it appear at ^June^ Court next by what power or authority the said Mary Tanner was detained as a Servant thereupon the said Mary Tanner is ordered by the Court to return to her said Masters Service untill next ^June^ Court and the same day is given to the aforesaid Francis and William here also &a Att which said next Court to witt the Seventeenth day of June anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and thirty five Came againe as well the afd Francis Harper and William Eskridge as the afd petitioner all in their proper persons and the petition aforesaid being Read and heard and fully understood as well on the part of the aforesaid Francis Harper and William Eskridge as on the part of the afd Petitioner and the Severall allegations on all sides being maturally deliberated and for as much as the said Will.m Eskridge |
