 Somerset County ss  Susannah Wordie late of Somerset County Widow
was Attached to Answer unto John Caldwell of a plea of Trespass
upon the Case
    And Whereupon the said John by Francis Allen his attorney Complains that
    whereas the said Susannah after the first Day of May Anno Dom one thousand seven
    hundred and five to witt the Eighteenth day of June Annoq Dom seventeen hundred &
    thirty one at the County of Somerset aforesaid within the Jurr of this Court made her
    Certain note in writing Called a promisary note with her proper hand subscribed bearing
    date the day and year last mentioned and the said Note to the said John then and
    there delivered by which said note the said Susannah did oblige her Self her heirs
    Ex.rs or Assignes to pay unto the said John his heirs or Assignes the Sum of Nineteen
    pounds Curr mony of Maryland or three thousand Eight hundred pounds of Tob.o
    Betwixt the date thereof & April then next and by Reason thereof as also by
    force of the Statute in that Case lately made and provided the said Susannah
    became Chargeable to pay to the said John the said sum of Nineteen pounds Curr
    mony of Maryland or three thousand Eight hundred pounds of Tob.o  And so
    being Chargeable the said Sussannah in Consideration thereof afterwards
    to witt the afs.d Eighteenth day of June Seventeen hundred and Eleven above
    said at the County aforesaid within the Jurr afs.d upon herself did assume
    and to the said John then and there did faithfully promise to pay the said
    Nineteen pounds Current money aforesaid or three thousand Eight hundred pounds
    of Tob.o According to the Tennor of the said Note  Nevertheless the said Susannah
    her promise and assumption aforesaid in form afs.d made nothing regarding but
    plotting and fraudulently Intending the said John in that part Craftily and Subtily
    to deceive and Defraud tho often by the said John thereunto Requested the Said
    Ninteen pounds Curr mony or three thousand Eight hundred pounds of Tob.o
    According to the Tennor of the said note to the said John as yett hath not paid
    or Contented but the same to him hitherto to pay or Content hath refused
    and still doth refuse and deny  Whereupon he saith he is worse and
    hath Damage to the value of thirty Eight pounds money aforesaid or
    seven thousand six hundred pounds of Tob.o  And thereupon he brings

    Thereupon the said Sussannah Wordie by George Doblas her attorney
    Comes and Defends the force and Injury when &c.a and prays Leave thereof
    to Imparle here Untill next Court and he hath it and the same day
