251 then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the same sarah to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good rule and Government and against the form of the act of assembly in such Case Lately made and provided &a Test John Merrill On the backside of the foregoing bill of Indictment it was Endorsed as followeth viz.t True Bill Thomas Humphrys foreman Thereupon Command was given to the Sheriff of Somerset County that he Should take the afd Sarah Riggin if &.a to answer &.a and afterwards to witt the Eighteenth day of March anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and thirty four before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset Now here held at dividing Creek in the Same County Came the afd Sarah Riggin in her proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment afd and being Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd above by the Indictment afd upon her Imposed says that of the premisses afd above upon her Imposed she is guilty thereof and is willing to pay her fine for the fact afd whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here seen heard and fully understood It is Considered that the aforesaid Sarah Riggin pay unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary for her fine by the Court here ^upon her^ Imposed for and by Occasion of the premisses afd whereof in form afd she is Convict thirty shillings Currant money for the Use of the County afd and that the same Sarah Riggin be taken to satisfie his said Lordship of the fine afd &a whereupon the said Sarah Riggin is ordered to give security for the payment of ^the^ Severall Officers Fees due upon the Indictment afd Whereupon a Certain Ambross Riggin senr present here in Court acknowledged himselfe Indebted unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary in five pounds Sterling good and Lawfull money of his body goods or Chattells Lands or tenements to the Use of the officers that hath right to any Fees upon the Indictment afd to be made and Levied If it happen that the said Ambross Riggin do not pay unto the Severall Officers their Fees due by Occasion of the premisses afd on the Indictment aforesaid &a
afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors afd unknown and did permitt the same unknown person then and there to have Carnall knowledge of her body and to begett then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the same Rebecca to the high displeasure of almighty God to the evill Example of all others in Case |
