189 against the said Robert Geddes Whereupon a Certain Richard Gore Husband of the afd Jane Gore present here in Court in his proper person undertook for the said Jane Gore and acknowledged himselfe Indebted unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary in the sum of five pounds sterling good and Lawfull money of England of his goods and Chattells Lands and tenements to the Use of his said Lordship the Lord prory his heirs and Successors to be made and Levied if it happen that the afd Jane Gore do not make her personall appearance before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at dividing Creek the third tuesday of November next and do not then and there give Such Evidence as shee shall know against the Said Robert in relation to the beating of her as afd and do depart the Same Court without Leave thereof &a
there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and to beget then and there a Bastard Child on the body of her the same Rachel to the high displeasure of almighty god to the Evil Example of all Others in such Case offending contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good rule and government and against the act of assembly in such case lately made and provided &a Test Samuel Melson On the backside of the foregoing bill of Indictment it was Endorsed vizt Billa vera John Purnall Foreman thereupon Command was given to the sherriff of Somerset County that he should take the said Rachel Russell if &a to answer &a and afterwards to witt the twentieth day of August One thousand seven hundred and thirty Four before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset now here held at dividing Creek in the County afd Came the afd Rachell Russell in her proper person and being Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd above upon her Imposed says that of the premisses afd above upon her Imposed she is Guilty thereof and is willing to pay her fine for the fact afd and makes oath that a Certain Hugh Neal is the father of the Child she stands Indicted for whereupon all and singular the premisses by the Court here seen heard and fully understood It is Considered that the afd Rachel Russell pay unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary for her fine by the Court hereupon her Imposed for and by Occasion of the premisses afd whereof in form afd she is Convict thirty shillings Currant money for the Use of the County af.d and that the same Rachell Russell be taken to satisfie his said Lordship of the fine afd &a at the prayer of William Goldsborough Cler of the Indictments he is ordered to file an Information against the afd Hugh Neal &a
