 Somerset County ss.t    The Jurors for the Right Honourable the Lord proprietary
that now is for the body of Somerset County afd upon their Oath do present that
Rachel Bratton Late of Coventry parish in the County afd Spinster the first day
                of december in the year of Our Lord God Seventeen hundred and thirty three at the parish
afd in the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain Elias Taylor
and did permitt the same Elias Taylor then and there to have Carnall Knowledge of her body and to beget
then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the same Rachell Bratton to the high displeasure of almighty
God to the evill Example of all others in such Case Offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary
that now is his good rule and government and against the form of the act of assembly in Such Case Lately
made and provided &a    On the backside of the foregoeing bill of Indictment it was thus Endorsed vizt
Billa vera Samuel Wilson foreman

          Thereupon Command was given to the sheriff of Somerset County that he Should take the said
Rachel Braten if &a to answer &a and afterwards to witt the Ninteenth day of March anno Dom one thousand
seven hundred and thirty three before the Justices of his Lordships the Lord proprietarys County Court of
Somerset now held at dividing Creek in and for the County afd Cometh the afd Rachel Bratten according to
a Certain Recognizance by her and her securitys in that part first acknowledged in her proper person
and had a hearing of the Indictment afd and says that of the premisses afd above upon her Imposed
she is guilty thereof but hath not wherewithall to pay her fine for the fact &a

    Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here being seen heard and fully understood   It is
Considered that the afd Rachel Braten be whipt with three Lashes on the bare Back at the publick whiping
post and that she be taken &a    Thereupon Command is given to the sherriff of Somerset County that he
take ye said Rachel Bratten to the publick whiping post and there give her three Lashes on the bare back
and afterwards in the Same Court Came the said sherriffe and made return that he had done the Execution of
the Judgment afd as to the Corporall punishment afd he was Commanded &a
