1731 81 Security in Forty pounds Sterling Each for to Comply with the Covenants aforesaid whereupon the Said Edward Evans with William Waltom his Security both present herein Court in their proper persons present herein Court acknowledged themselves to Owe and Stand Justly Indebted unto the Said Lawrence Evans in the Sum of forty pounds Sterling Good and lawfull mony of their Goods and Chattells Lands and tenements for the the Use of the Said Lawrence Evans his heirs and assigns Joyntly and Seperately to be made and Levied if default be made in the Condition hereunder written The Condition of the above Recognizance is Such that if the above bounden Edward Evans do and shall well and faithfully educate and bring up or Cause to be educated and brought up his said apprentice during the term afd in the trade of a Cordwainer and Read and write well and at the expiration of his Servitude give him a Set of Shoe makers tooles a young mare of two Years old and a new Suit of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and Likewise find and provide for his Said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing mete for Such an apprentice to have and wear during his Servitude to have and wear then the above Recognizance to be void and of None Effect otherwise &c
after dyed that Mary Fountain the widdow of Said John pretending to bring your petitioner to Court as an Evidence got the Court to ask your Petitioner if he was willing to Live with said mary as your petitioner has been Since Informed took advantage thereof and had your petitioner bound to her on record and also falsely recorded your Petitioners age tho' Entirely unknown to her pretending your Petitioner is at this time but 19 Years old tho your Petitioner is well assured he is 21 years of age or thereabouts and has keept him always at hard work in the plantation Like a bought serv.t Never taking any Care for your Petitioner Learning according to the tenor of his Fathers Will he therefore Prays your Worships to releive him and set him free from her the said Mary being Old Enough to take Care of himselfe and to Endeavour to gett Such Learnings in a good trade and other ways as may be here after Servicable to him ^wch^ with the said Mary has entirely Neglected and your Petitioner as in Duty bound shall Ever pray &c The petition aforesaid being Read and heard and all and Singular ^the premisses^ as well on the part of the petitioner as on the part of the aforsaid Mary Fountain as also their Severall allegations &c Wherefore it is Considered by the Court here that the aforesaid Terrill ^Brown^ be discharged from under the Care and tuition of the aforesaid Mary Fountain as by his petition aforesaid is praid &c Upon the Mocon of Michael Oare to be tax free &c Its thereupon Ordered by the Court here that the afd Michaell Oare be tax free for the future &c
