52 Some of the Gentlemen that were first appoined as aforesaid and upon their Inspection of the Said Roads to Lay out and order which of the Said Roads Should be Kept & Cleared as the County Road and if they do not approve of neither of the Said Roads allready Cleared that then they the Said Robert King Thomas Williams and Thomas Dixon or any two of them direct and Lay out a road or Roads down ye Said Neck of the most Conveniency and ye Least of prejudice to any the Livers in ye Said neck and they to make their Report at next Court &c Whereas it is Represented to this Court that there is a necessity for the Clearing of a road from the head of wickacomoco River to Buckenham over the head of Pocomoke &.c thereupon it is ordered by the Court that John Handy, George Dashiell, James Rownd and Mathew Purnall ^of Somerset County Gent^ view, Inspect and Enquire whether there is a necessity for the Clearing of the Said Road ^or not^ and if they find there is a necessity that then they order Andrew Smith overseer of the road at the side to Clear ye Said Road from the East Side of Pocomoke River to Hodges Road or Buckingham Road as the Viewers Shall appoint and Likewise that they order Samuel Trewitt Overseer ^to Clear^ from the West Side of Pocomoke River to Shelten Hill at Wickacomoco River &c
to be educated and brought ^up^ his Said apprentice in the art and mistery of a merriner or Common coaster and to teach him Navigation of his Capacity will Readily take it and find for his Said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing Sufficient for ^such an apprentice^ Sufficient to have and wear during the term afd and at the Expiration of his Servitude to Give him a Quadrant Scale and pair of dividers Whereupon it is ordered by the Court here that the aforesaid Levin Gale give Security for to Comply with ye Covenants aforesaid Thereupon the aforesaid Levin Gale with Thomas Hayward his Security both present here in Court acknowledged themselves to owe and Stand Justly Indebted unto the afd William Holland in the Sum ^twenty pounds^ Sterling to be Levied of their Goods and Chattells Lands or tenements for the Use of the Said William Holland if default be made in the Condition hereunder written The Condition of the above Recognizance is Such that if the above bounden Levin Gale do and Shall well and faithfully educate and bring up or Cause to be educated and brought up his Said apprentice in ye act and mistery of a marriner or common Coaster and to teach him navigation if his Capacity will readily take it and Likewise find and provide for his Said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing Sufficient for Such an apprentice to have and wear during the term afd and at the Expiration of his servitude ^do^ give him a quadrant scale and pair of Dividers &c then the above recognizance to be void and of none Effect otherwise to Stand & remain in full force & virtue in Law &c Ordered by the Court that John Elzey, Robert Jones, and Philip Covington and Thomas Laws all of Somerset County Gent Lay out and Settle a road thro' Edward Roberts plantation at dam quarter march for richd Willis & others the Inhabitants that hath occasion to make use of ye Said Road &c |
