301 to serve one John ^Michael^ Schanaver of Boston in New England to Serve him for the Space of four Years which time has been Expired since the first day of last November butt the said John Michael Schanaver thro' threats of Ill usage forst your petitioner to sign a new Indenture before the Old One was Expired which new Indenture will hold your petitioner a year Longer then she by her first Indenture was Obliged to Serve he sending your petitioner by Capt Moses Chaille to be sold the said Capt Chaille sold your petitioner to Christopher Glass who saw Capt Chaille have my first Indenture altho' he Bought me by the new one Therefore your worships petitioner prays your worship will be pleased to take it into your Consideration and Set your petitioner at Liberty and your petitioner as in duty bound will pray &c Ann More Whereupon the afd Christopher Glass and the said Ann More being both present here in Court in their proper persons the petition afd being Read and heard and all and Singular the premisses as well on the part of the said Christopher Glass as on the part of the afd petitioner and also what James Martin of Somrset County Gent delivered upon Oath in relation to the said petioners Indentures and the Communication that past between the said Christopher Glass and the said Moses Chaille at the time of the Sale of the petitioner afd all which being Impartially weighted and duly Consulted by and among the Justices of the Same Court &c It is Therefore Considered that the Same Inde^n^ture by which the afd Christopher Glass held and detained the said Ann More the petitioner as a servant is not good nor Sufficient in Law to hold or detain the said Petitioner as a servant any Longer and that the said petitioner be thereof acquitt and goe thereof without day &c Sambo a negro man (of Mr William Planner) being Antient and Infirm is adjudged by the Court to be tax free for the future &c Att the prayer of M.r James Martin of Somerset County Gent he is discharged from paying of taxed for his Negro woman Moll she being antient and Infirm) for the future &c
a docter all to noe Effect your petitioner prays your worships to acquitt him from paying any Levys for the said negro and your petitioner as in duty bound shall ever pray Mathew Purnall The petition afd being Read and heard and fully understood and Mature deliberation thereupon had therefore it is Considered by the Court here that the afd Mathew Purnall be discharged from paying of Taxes for the afd Negro untill he Comes to the use of his arm againe &c Nicholas Fountain of Somerset County Gentleman appointed Overseer of the Roads in the Stead of David Wilson for the Ensuing Year &c |
