225 Thomas Bluet Gent who prosecutes for the Lord proprietary and Gives this Court to understand and be informed that Bridgett Philips Late of the Said County Spinster the first day of aprill in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty One in the County aforesaid and within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain Furnis Odeer of the County aforesaid planter and him the Said Furnis on the body of the Said Bridgett a bastard Child to begett did permitt to the high displeasure of almighty God and to the Evill example of all others in such Cases offending and against the form of the act of assembly in Such Cases made and provided wherefore the Said Thomas Bluet prays the advice of the Court in the premisses & due process of Law therein against the said Bridget to Issue thereupon Command was Given to the sher of Somerset County that he should take the said Bridget Phillips if &c to answer &c and afterwards here at this Court held at dividing Creek in Somerset County the fifteenth day of August Anno Dom One thousand Seven hundred and thirty two before the Justices of the Same Court Judicially Sitting Came the afd Bridget Philips in her proper person according to a Certain Recognizance by her & her pledges in that part before acknowledged and being Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses aforesaid above upon her Imposed says that of the premisses afd above upon her Imposed she is Guilty thereof and makes Oaths that a Certain Furnis Odear is the begetter of the Child she stands Informed against &c whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here seen and heard and fully understood It is Considered by the Court here that the aforesaid Bridgett Phillips pay unto his said Lordship the Lord proprietary (to the use of Somerset County) for her fine by the Court hereupon Imposed for and by Occasion of the premisses aforesaid whereof in form aforesaid she is Convict Six hundred pds of tobacco and that the Said Bridget Phillips be taken to satisfie his said Lordship of the fine aforesaid thereupon the Said Bridgett Phillips is ordered to Give Security for the payment of the fine aforesaid and the Severall Officers their Fees due by means of the premisses aforesaid Whereupon a Certain James Furnis of the County aforesaid planter present herein Court undertakes for to pay the fine aforesaid and the Severall Officers Fees due by Occasion of the premisses aforesaid Likewise it is ordered by the Court that the aforesaid Bridgett Phillips Give Security for her appearance at November Court next to Give Evidence against the Said Furnis Odear thereupon the aforesaid Bridgett Phillips with James Furnis Odear her Security both present herein Court acknowledged themselves to Owe and Stand Justly Indebted unto his Lordship the Right honrble the Lord proprietary in the Sum of ten pounds sterling Each of their Goods & Chattells Lands and tenaments Seperately to be made and Levied to the Use of his said Lordship the Lord proprietary his heirs and successors If It happen the said Bridgett Phillips do not make her personall appearance before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of to be held at dividing Creek in the Same County the third tuesday of Novem next and do not then and there Give such Evidence as she shall know against Furnis Odear Concerning the premisses afd and do not depart the same Court without Lycence thereof &c |
