1732 187 expiration of his Servitude Give him a Set of Cordwainers Tooles a young mare of two years old and a new Suit of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and Likewise find and provide for his said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing mete for such an apprentice to have and wear during the term aforesaid &c Whereupon it is ordered by the Court here that the aforesaid John Evans Give Security for to Comply with the Covenants aforesaid &c Thereupon the Said John Evans with John Collings his Security both present herein Court in their proper persons acknowledged themselves to Owe and Stand Justly Indebted unto the Said Lawrence Evans in forty pounds Sterling Good and Lawfull mony Joyntly and Severally of the bodys Goods and Chattells Lands and tenements for the use of the Said Lawrence Evans his heirs and assignes If it Happen the said John Evans do not Learn his Said apprentice during her Servitude the trade of a Cordwainer ^and to read and write well^ and do not at the Expiration of his Servitude Give him a set of Cordwainers tooles a young mare of two years old and a new Suit of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and Likewise do not find and provide for his said apprentice during his Servitude Sufficient meat drink washing Lodging and apparell &c then the above Recognizance to be of full force & Vertue &c otherwise &c John Webb appointed Overseer of the Roads in Pocomoke hundred of the Roads for the Ensuing Year in Stead of Philip Quinton &c Joseph Cottman appointed Overseer of the Roads in Wickacomoco hundred in the Stead of Levin Gale Esq.r for ye ensuing year &c
that he may be discharged from paying of taxes for the Said Negro and shall as in duty bound ever pray Benj.a Cottman The petition aforesaid being read and heard and fully understood It is therefore Considered by the Court here that the aforesaid Benjamin Cottman be discharged from paying of taxes for the future for the aforesaid Negro as by the petition aforesaid is praid &c M.rs Alice Ellis relict of Mr Merrick Ellis Late of Somerset County dec.d Came here into Court and prays that she may have the Liberty of keeping the Lower ferry over Wickacomoco River as formerly her said Husband Merrick Ellis had done which is Granted unto her she finding a good boat and Giving Good attendance to the Said Ferry for the ferrying of man and Horse over the Said River and for so doing to be allowed as formerly at the Laying of ye County Levy &c |
