       March Court                    1731                    156

[illegible] is the father of the Child she Stands Accused of and is willing to pay her fine for
the fact aforesd &c                Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here
being seen heard and fully understood   It is Considered by the Court here that the said
Esther Mumford pay to her said Lordship for her fine by the Court hereupon her Imposed
for and by Occasion of the Premisses aforesd whereof in forme aforesd she is Convict Six
hundred pounds of Tobacco (to the Use of the County aforesd) and that the said Esther be
taken to Satisfie her Said Lordship of the fine aforesd   Whereupon it is Considred by
the Court here that the aforesd Esther Mumford give Security for the Payment of the
fine aforesd and the Several Officers fees due by occasion of the Premisses aforesd
thereupon James Mumford of Somerset County Gent undertakes for the said
Esther Mumford to pay the fine aforesd and the Severall Officers fees due as aforesd &c

Somerset ss  Be it remembred that upon the twenty first day of march
Ann Dom one thousand Seven hundred and thirty one came hereinto ^Somerset^ County
Court Levin Gale Clerk of the Indictments of the said County and for the said
Lord proprietary gives the Court to understand be Informed that Joseph
Nichols Late of Somerset County Planter the tenth day of November anno Domo one
thousand Seven hundred and thirty one at the County aforesd within the Jur of this
court did Committ fornication with a Certain Esther Mumford against the peace of
the right Honrble the Lord proprietary his good rule and Goverment and also against
the forme of the act of assembly in Such Case made and provided whereof the said
Levin Gale for the Said Lord proprietary prays Advisement of the Court herein the

             Afterwards in the same Court to witt the twenty first day of march anno Domo one
thousand Seven hundred and thirty one before his Lordships Justices of the County Court of
Somerset now held at Dividing Creek Cometh the aforesd Joseph in his proper person according
to a Certain Recognizance by him and his Security before that time acknowledged and
the Same Joseph being Immediately asked how he would acquitt himself of the
Premisses above upon him Imposed says that of the premisses abovesaid upon him
Imposed he is Guilty thereof and is willing to pay his fine for the fact aforesd

          Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here being seen heard
and fully understood   It is Considered by the Court here that the Said Joseph Nichols
pay unto his Said Lordship for his fine by the Court hereupon him Imposed for and
by occasion of the Premisses aforesd whereof in forme aforesd he is Convict thirty
Shillings Currant money (to the Use of the County aforesd) and that the said Joseph
be taken to Satisfie his said Lordship of the fine aforesd   Whereupon it is ordered by the
Court here that the aforesd Joseph Nichols Give Security for the payment of the fine aforesd
and the Severall Officers fees due by occasion of the Premisses aforesd thereupon W.m MccClemey
of Somerset County Gent undertakes for the said Joseph Nichols to pay the fine aforesd
and the severall officers fees due as afd &c
