       June Court       anno 1728            97

thereupon Command is given to the Sher of Somersett County that he Should take the afd Jno Hailes if &.c to
answer &.c and afterwards herein Court Came the afd Jno Hailes in his own proper person and being by the sher
Putt to the Barr is Instantly demanded how he would acquitt himselfe of the premisses afd says that of the premisses
afd he is Guilty thereof and putts himself in mercy of the Lord proprietary for the fact afd and is willing to
Pay three pounds Curr.t mony for his fine in the premisses afd

                Wherefore it is Considered by the Court here that the afd John Hailes be find to his Lordship three
pounds Curr.t mony for the fact afd and that he be taken &.c   thereupon the said John Hailes is discharged
Paying the Severall Officers their fees due by Occasion of the primisses afd &.c

Thomas Tyler
We of the grand Jury for the body of Somersett County upon their oath do present Thomas Tyler of
Smiths Island in Coventry Parish in Somersett County Planter for Committing fornication with a Certaine
Mary Hopkins on or about the first day of June anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and

Twenty seven                     Thomas Humphry's foreman

                Thereupon Command is given to the sherr of Somersett County that he should take the afd Thomas Tyler
if &.c to answer &c and afterwards in the same Court Came the Said Thomas Tyler in his own proper person
and being by the Sherr Sett to the Barr is thereupon Instantly demanded how he would acquitt himselfe of the
premisses abovesaid Saith that of the premisses afd he is Guilty thereof and puts himselfe in Mercy of the
Lord proprietary and is willing to pay thirty shilling for his fine for the fact afd &c

             Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the afd Thomas Tyler be fined to his Lordship
toward the defraying of the County Charge thirty shillings for the fact afd and that he be taken &.c
Thereupon the Said Thomas Tyler is ordered to give security for ^the payment of^ all the Officers their fees due by Occasion
of the premisses afd &c

Honour Norgate
Whereas a Certain Honour Norgate being bound Over by Recognizance for her appearance this
Court to answer her Committing fornication and having born of her body a bastard Child Contrary
to the Peace his Lordships good Rule and Government &.c
         The aforesaid Honour Norgate being Present here in Court is by the Sherr Sett to the bar and is thereupon
Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd Saith that if the Premisses afd she is
Guilty thereof and Submitts to the Mercy of the Court but hath not where^withall^ of to pay her fine for the fact afd

                   Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the afd Honour Norgate be whipt at the publick
whiping Post with fifteen Lashes on the bare back well Laid on untill the blood appear and that
she be taken &.c   Thereupon as to the Corporall Punishm.t afd Command is given unto the sherr of Somerset
County that he doe thereof Immediate Execution by whiping the afd Honour Norgate at the publick whiping
Post with fifteen Lashes on the bare Back well Laid on untill the blood appear and afterwards
