86 Bill of Indictment against John Edwards ^Timothy Sillivant^ and William Till the grand Jurors are discharged and ordered that they be allowed five hundred pounds of tobacco for their publick service this Court to be paid next Levy Court &c Quamming a negro Boy of Robert Hodge is adjudged by the Court to twelve years &.c Upon the mocon of Robert Pearce of Somersett County Gentleman to this Court to be admitted one of the practioners of the Law in the Same Court Granted the takeing the Severall Oaths appointed by Law and Subscribing the Oath of abjuration and test &.c Thereupon the Said Robert Pearce took the Several Oaths appointed by Law to the Government and the oath of an attorney and Subscribed the Oath of Abjuration and test &c and thereupon the afd Robert Pearce is accordingly admitted &c Oxford a negro boy of Charles Dashiell is adjudged by the Court to be of the age of twelve years &c Quammine a negro boy of Isaac Handy's is adjudged by the Court to be of the age of Ten Years this term &c Upon the mocon of M.r William Planner on behalfe of a Certain Jno Tyler to to have him tax free &c Wherefore it is Considered by the Court that the afd John Tyler be for the future tax free as by the mocon afd is praid &c Esther Costan, Elizabeth Costan, Ann Mary Costan, and Comfort Costan Orphans of Stephen Costan dec.d is bound by the court of their Own Consent unto Peter Benton and Comfort his wife untill they arrive at the age of Sixteen Years Each if the said Comfort wife of the afd Peter Benton should Live so long but if it Shall pleas God the said Comfort wife of the afd Peter Should depart this Life before the said Children Should arrive to the age of Sixteen as afd that then the afd Peter is to return them to the County Court of Somersett for the time being the said Children to serve the Said Peter Benton and Comfort his wife the full term of time afd &.c In consideration of which Servitude the Said Peter Benton and Comfort his wife undertakes to Learn the Said Children to read well in the bible and to Knitt Sew and Spin with Other houswifery whereupon it is ordered by the court that the afd Peter Benton Give Security to Comply with the Covenants afd Whereupon the said Peter Benton with Isaac Costan his Security both present here in Court in their proper person's acknowledged themselves to Owe and Stand Justly Indebted unto the afd Esther, Eliz.a, Ann Mary, and Comfort Costan, Orphan's afd their heirs and assigns in the Sum of forty pounds Sterling Seperately on their bodys Goods or Chattells Lands or tenements for the Use of the afd Children to be made and Levied if default be made in the Condition hereunder written The Condition of the above Recognizance is such that if the above Bound Peter Benton do and shall Learn the afd Esther, Eliz.a Ann Mary and |
