Same Jn.o hath not Rendered but ye said Tho.s ye Same hitherto to doe Hath altogether
denyed & still doth deny & Unjustly Detain whereby ye same Jn.o sayes he is worse & hath
Dam to ye value of fifteen pd.s sixteen Shills & six pence Currt money & thereof he Brings
this Suite &a   & the same Jn.o Brings hereinto ye Court ye Writing obligatory afd which ye Debt
afd in form afd Wittnesseth whose Date is ye same day & year afd &a
                                                                         L Gale P Quer pledges &.a J Doe  R Roe

    And the afd Thos Layfield in his own proper person Comes & Defends the force & Injury
when &.a & prays Leave to Imparle hereunto untill the Next Court & he hath it & the
same day is given unto ye afd Plft here also &a

Att which said Next Court to witt ye fifteenth day of August Ann.o Dom one thousand
Seven hundred & twenty Seven Comes again the afd John Pitts by his attorney afd and prays
that the afd Thomas Layfeild to his declaration afd may answer  And the afd Thomas Layfeild altho
Solemnly Called Came not nor nothing in bar or preclusion of the action afd of the afd John Says
by which the same John Remaineth against the afd Thomas thereof undefended &c

           Therefore it is Considered by the Court here that the afd John Pitts Recover against the afd
Thomas Layfeild Seven pounds Eighteen shillings and three pence Curr.t money his debt afd as also
280   his damages by Occasion of the detaining of the same Debt to Two hundred & Eighty
pounds of tobacco to the same John of his assent by the court here adjudged and the afd deft in
mercy &a

and avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &.c  To John Scott Will.m Handy, Robert
Mitchell, and Peter Benton all of somersett County Gent Greeting Know
ye that we have appointed you or any three or two of You to be Our Commissioners
          to Examine Evidences on behalfe of a Certain Richard Knight of the County afd
in Relation to the Bounds of a tract of Land Lying in the County afd Called Mitchells adventure
&.c we therefore Require you or any three or two of you that at some time and Place as to you
or any three or two of you shall seem Convenient ^you mete^ the afd Land Called Mitchells adventure
(you first having Taken your Oaths on the holy Evangelist of Almighty God According to Act
of Assembly in such Case made and provided) and there Cause to Come before you or any
three or two of you all such Evidences as shall be to you or any three or two of you nominated
by the said Complainant (or Deft if any) and that you Examine them upon their Corporall oaths
to be by you or any three or two of you administred on the holy Evangelist of almighty god
in the presents of the Complainant (or Deft if any) Touching the truth or Remembrances of
their Knowledge or any thing that may relate to the Cause afd and that reducing the severall
Depositions into Writing you send the same together with this Our Commission under
Your or any three or two of Your hands to us to Our County Court of somersett with
