Somersett ss    The Jurors for his Lordship the right honrble the Lord Proprietary of
the province of maryland ^&^ for the body of Somersett County that now is &.c upon their
Oath do present that a Certain John Hamilton al.s dict John Hambleton late of
Coventry parish in the County afd planter the tenth day of September ann.o Dom One thousand Seven
hundred and twenty nine at Somersett parish and County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court with
force and armes one Irish Linen shirt of the value of Eighty pounds of tobacco one silk handkerchiefe
of the value of thirty pounds ^of tobacco^ of the proper goods and Chattells of a Certain Ephraim
WIllson then and there being and found then and there feloniously did Steall take and Carry away
and against the peace of the right honrble the Lord proprietary his good rule and Government and
against the form of the act of assembly of this province in such Cases made and provided

       On the back side of the foregoeing bill of Indictment it was thus Endorsed viz.t
                                                                               Billa vera Edward Rownd foreman


    Thereupon Command was given to the sher of Somersett County that he should take the said
John Hambleton if &.c to answer &.c and now hereafterwards to witt the the Eighteenth day of
November one thousand seven hundred and twenty Nine Came here into Court the Said John Hambleton
in Custody of the Sher into whose Custody before that time was Committed for the Cause afd and
whereupon the said John Hambleton being by the Sherr sett to the Barr and the afd Indictment
being unto him read is thereupon Instantly demanded how he would acquitt himselfe of the
fellony afd above upon him Imposed says that of the felony afd above upon him Imposed
he is noeways guilty thereof and for tryall thereof he putts himslfe upon the Country and Geo:
Dashiell who for his said Lordship in this behalfe prosecutes Likewise

         Whereupon Command is given to the sher of Somersett County that Immediately he Cause
to Come here twelve &.c by whome &c who neither &.c to recognize &.c because as well &.c of which
said preceipt the said sher to witt Jno Purnall Gent Now hereat to witt the same day and year
Last mentioned makes return that he has here ready twelve &.c as by his said preceipt he was
Commanded and whereupon the Jurors of that Jury therein Impannelled being Called Came to
witt John Scarbrough, Jonathan Sturges, John Brittingham, Thomas Holbrook, Abraham Smith
Edward Jones, Isaiah Bredall, John Pope Crispin Price, W.m Mills, Jno Purnall Jun.r ^Jno Roach^ who being
duly Elected tryed and Sworn to say the truth in the premises afd upon their Oath do say that
the said John Hambleton is guilty of the felony whereof he stands Indicted but Know of noe
Goods or Chattels that he had at the time of the felony Committed or at any time Since &.c

    Whereupon the Justices here valued the Goods in the Indictment mentioned to One hundred
pounds of tobo   Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the Said John Hambleton pay
unto ^the said^ Ephraim Willson the party deprived four fould of the value of the goods afd amounting in
