1728 153 Pursuant to an act of assembly of this province directing the Oath of a Justice of peace and according to the direction of the dedimus to the Justices therein Mentioned the Same Oath appointed by act of assembly was administred to the Severall Justices therein mentioned according to the dedimus ^afd^ directed (Except Mr Robt King) Hugh Stevenson of Somersett County Gentleman a pressbitarian minister present here in Court Prays that he may be admitted to take the Severall Oaths appointed by act of assembly to the Government &.c Whereupon the Said Hugh Stevenson took the Severall Oaths appointed by act of assembly to the Government and Subscribed the oath of abjuration and test &c Proclamation being made in Common form the Sherr of somersett County to witt John Purnall Gent.m makes Return of a pannell of Grand Jurors as followeth viz.t George Scott, Stephen Waltom, Thomas Dixon, Solomon Colebourne, Richd Knight, Jn.o Crockett, John Waller, John Shiles, Isaiah Bredall, W.m Waltom, Robert Mitchell, Thomas Bashaw, John Tilman, John Venables, Thomas Collier, John Evans Thomas Collins, Nehemiah Holland and Abraham Cordery Whereupon Proclamation being made again in Common form and the Jurors afd so as afd Impannelled being Severally Called Over by their Names do appear as above and thereupon they are Sworn and Charged and sent Out to Consider &.c soon after the Grand Jurors afd being Impannelled sworn and Charged as afd Return hereinto Court and severally Called Over appear and being asked if they had agreed to any bills of Indictm.t or made any presentm.ts Returned the following presentm.t against Eliz.a Downs, and Sam.l Bratton, Thereupon the Grand Jurors afd are discharged and ordered that they be allowed the Sum of five hundred pounds of tob.o for their Publick Service this Court to be paid next Levey Court and against the afd Eliz.a Downs and Sam.l Bratton so as afd presented it is ordered that Capias Issue Returnable to Next Court &c
which Road might be made shorter and on as dry ground as it is now only wanting your worships order for the Same and your petitioner shall as in duty bound for Ever pray The Petition afd being Read and hard and fully understood &c wherefore |
