Court These falce feigned scandalous and aprobrious words and Lyes following then and
there haveing speech with divers worthy Persons of this Province Openly and Publickly and
with a Land vow did say afirm and declare viz.t   I (the same Love meaning herselfe) say that
Ann Covington ^Sarah Covington^ and Mary Covington (the afd Ann & Two of her sisters meaning are three Negrofied
whores and I (the said Love again speaking of and Meaning herselfe) say that Phillip Covington's
Negro Theodore Scrigles them as often as he Pleases wher^e^as In truth the said Ann Never Comitted
or Perpetrated any fornication adultery or any such Like wicked and Base Crime By reason of
the Speakeing and Publishing of which scandalous and approbrious words and Lyes the Said
Ann is not Only Extreemly Hurt and Damnified in her Good Nam^e^ fame Credit and Estimation afd
amongst Her Neighbours and other worthy Persons of this Province to whome she was Known
But also is Brought in Danger Inocently of Paying six hundred pounds of Tobacco Thirty
shillings or Being whiped whereby the said Ann says she is worse and Hath Damage to
the Value of fifty Pounds Currant mony and Thereof she Brings this Suite &c 
With this that ye said Ann will verifie that these words to witt (that Phillip Covingtons Negro Theodore
Scrigles them as often as he Pleases according the Phrase Intelligence and Comon & Usual
Acceptation of the People Dwelling in Somersett County afd do signifie as much and are Acquivalent
to these words (that is to say) That Phillip Covington's Negro Theodore has Carnal Knowledge
of them as often as he Pleases                                 Levin Gale   P Quer Pledges &c Jno Doe

And the ^afore^said Love Pr George Dashiell her attorney Comes and Defends the fource and Injury when
&c and Prays Leve to Imparle Hereunto untill the Next Court and she hath it and the same
day as Given to the afd Ann also                  Att which said Next Court to witt the fifteenth day of
June Ann Dom one thousand seven hundred and Twenty five Came again as well the afd Ann as
Covington as the afd Love Hobbs by their attorneys afd and the said Love Hobbs by her said &c
attorney as before denfends ye force & Injury ^when &c^ & saith that she is not Guilty of the Premisses Imposed
on her in Manner and forme as the said Ann againest her hath Complained and of this she puts
Herselfe upon the Country                                 Dashiell p Deft & the Quer in Like manner Gale

    Thereupon Command is Given to the Sherr of Somersett County that Immediately he Cause to
Come here Twelve &c By whome &c who N^e^ither &c To recognize &c Because as well &c of which
said Precept the said Sherr to witt Joseph McClester Gent.n Now here at this day to witt the same day
and year Last Mentioned Came and made returne that he had here re^a^dy twelve &c as by his said
Precept he was Commanded and Now hereafterwards to witt the same day and year Came the
as well the afd Plft as the afd Deft by their attorneys afd and the Jurors for that Jury Therein Impannelled
