Somersett fs Att a Court of the Right honrble
Charles absolute Lord and proprietary of the Provinces of maryland avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c held at dividing Creek by in the County afd by his Lordships Commissioners and Justices of the peace the third tuesday of march being the twenty first day of the same month and in the twelfth Year of his said Lordships dominion &.c Anno Dom 1726 present
Afterwards here in Court his Lordships Commission of the Peace being Produced with adedimus Potestatum thereupon Proclamation being made in usual form Command is given that all persons then Present were to keep siclence and hear the same Commission openly read as followeth viz.t Maryland fs Charles absolute Lord and proprietary of the provinces of Maryland and avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &.c ^to^ Sam.l Hopkins Wm Planner John Jones W.m Fasitt John Smith Baltemore hundred W.m Stoughton John Caldwell John MccClester John Handy James Dashiell John Scott and Robert King of Somersett County Gent greeting Know ye that we have assigned you and Every of you Joyntly & Severally Our Justices to Keep our Peace within our County of Somrsett & to make and Cause to be Kept all ordinances & Statutes as well of that part of ye Kingdom of Great Brittain Called England as of this our province of maryland for ye good & Conservation of ye Peace and Quiet rule & Government of our people within our Said County in all & Every ye Articles therein Exprest according to ye forme force & Effect of ye Same & to Chastize & Punish all or any Person or Persons offending againstt any ye said Ordinances or Statutes according to the directions thereof and to Call before you or any of you all those who in our County afd Shall threaten to do any Bodily harm to any of our good people or to burn their Houses or otherwise breack our peace & Misbehave themselves to find Sufficient security of ye peace & good Behaviour to us & our good plea people & if they Shall refuse to find Such security yt then you Cause them to be Committed into safe Custody Untill they Shall find ye same also we have assinged you & every three or more of you of whome we will you ye s.d Samuell Hopkins, W.m Planner, Jn.o Jones W.m Fasitt and Jn.o Smith or one of you always to be one our Justices to Enquire by ye oaths of good & Lawfull men of our County afd by whome ye truth of ye premises may be ye better Known of all & all manner of felonies Witchcrafts Enchantments sorceries arts Magick Trespasses Engrossing regreateings Forestallings & Extortions whatsoever & of all & other Misfeazances and offences whatsoever of which Justices of our peace lawfully may |
