June Court  1725                    20

Whereupon the said Hones Esther Jenckins being by the Sherr sett to the barr Indictm.t Read pleads
Guilty and putts herselfe in Mercy of the Lord proprietary and makes Oath that a Certain Richard
Relewery is the begetter of the Child she stands presented for but hath nothing to pay her fine for the
fact afd   Wherefore it is ordered by the Court that the said Ester Jenckins be whiped with fifteen
Lashes on the Bear Baick well Laid on untill the blood appear and as to the Corporall punishmt
afd Command is given to the Sherr of Somersett County that he do thereof Immediate Execution by
whiping the afd Ester Jenckins at the publick whiping post with fifteen Lashes on the bear back well
Laid on untill the blood appear and afterwards in the Same Court the said Sherr Return's that he has
done the Execution of the Judgm.t afd as to the Corporal punishm.t afd he was Commanded &c 

       Whereupon the said Ester Jenckins is Ordered to give security for all the officers fees due by
occasion of the premisses afd    thereupon a Certain Absolom ford Cometh into Court and Confesseth Judgmt
unto the Severall Officers ^for their^ fees due by occasion of the premisses Likewise the said Absalom ford
undertakes for the said Esther Jenckins in ten pounds Sterr to be Levied on his goods or Chattels Lands
or tenements for the Use of the said Lord proprietary In Case the said Esther Jenckins doe not make
her personall appearance before the Justices of the County Court to be held at deviding Creek the third
tuesday of August next to give Evidence against a Certain Richard Pelavery &c

We of the Grand Jury do present Samuel Taylor of Coventry parish Planter for
Neglecting to give in two of his sons being Taxables     John Murray Informer
                                                                  W.m Lane foreman
                      Thereupon Command was given to the Sherr of Somersett County that he should take the
    said Samuel Taylor of Coventry Parish Planter if he should be found in his Bailywick and him
    should safe Keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of
    of Somersett the to be held at Dividing Creek the third tuesday of June then next to answer unto
    his said Lordship Concerning a Certain Presentm.t against him found &c and that thereof he should
    not fail &c                Att which said third tuesday of June ^to witt^ being the fifteenth day of the same month
    ann.o Dom One thousand seven hundred & twenty five being the day of the return of the said Writt
    Cometh the said Sherr to whom the foregoeing writt was directed and maketh Return thereof to the
    Court here Endorsed in these words following vizt   Cepi Corpus p Jose: MccClester Sherr

                Whereupon the said Samuel Taylor being sett to the Barr Presentm.t Read pleads not guilty
    and for tryall thereof putts himselfe upon the Country and Levin Gale his Lordships attorney who
    for his said Lordship in this Behalfe Prosecuted Likewise

          Whereupon the said Ann Beall Samuel Taylor Relinquisheth his verification afd above
    pleaded And says that of the premisses afd so as afd upon him Imposed he is guilty thereof
