171 Bealived & governd himselfe & of good Name fame Creditt & Estimation as well among his Neighbours as all other faithfull Subjects of our sd Lord y.e King by all y.e time afd hath been Esteemed Accounted & reputed & from all treasons felonys thefts or such Like wicked & base Crime & from the Procureing or abetting such like wickedness or of y.e same in any Manner whatsoever noted or suspected by the whole Course of be his Life hither to free Clear & wholy unsuspected hath abstaind remaind Life'd & Continued by reason whereof y.e s.d Rich.d obtained y.e favour and goodwill not only of his Neighbours but of all other faithfull Subjects of our Lord y.e King to whom he was known Nevertheless the afd W.m not Ignorant of y.e Premises but Eaving the happy Estate and Condition of the same richard & Maliciously Intending not only to ruin the good name fame Credit & reputation of y.e s.d rich.d & him unto Hatred & Contempt among his Neighbours to Cast out also to bring y.e s.d rich.d in Manifest Dainger of Loosing his Life the tenth day of May Anno Dom one thousand Seven hundred & twenty at y.e County afd within y.e Jur of this Court these falce feigned scandalous & aprobrious words & Lyes following then & there having Speech & Communication w.th a Certain Marthew Wallace a son of y.e afd Rich.d Wallace has upon the Body of his wife Lawfully begotten) in presence & hereing of a Certain Lewis Jones did say afirm & Declare & w.th a high voice publish viz.t your (y.e afd Marthew speaking to and Meaning) further (the afd richard Speaking of & Meaning) is a hogg Steeler & I (the same W.m ^himselfe^ speaking of & Meaning) will proveit ^it^ whereas in truth the s.d rich.d never any Treason felony theft or any such Like wicked or Base Crime Ever Committed or Perpetrated by ^reason of the^ speaking Publishing & Uttering of w.ch falce seigned scandalous & aprobious words & Lies y.e s.d Richard Is not only very Much Hurt & damnified in his good Name fame Creditt and Estimation but is brought tho' Inocent in Dainger of being whipt & Pillord & forfeiting his Chattells whereby y.e same rich.d Says he is worse & hath Damage to y.e value of sixty pounds Currant Money and thereof he Brings this Suite &c L Gale P Quer pledges &c J Doe R Roe And the afd William Roberts by George Dashiell his attorney Comes and defends the force and Injury when &c and prays Leave to Imparle hereunto untill the Next Court and he hath it and the Same days is given to the afd Plft also Att which said Next Court to witt the Six twenty first day of June anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and twenty six Came againe as well the afd Richard Wallace as the afd William Roberts by their attorneys afd and the same William Roberts by his said attorney prays further leave to Imparle hereunto untill the next Court and he hath it and the Same day is given to the afd plft also Att which said Next Court to witt the sixteenth day of augu.t Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred & twenty six Came again as well the afd Rich.d Wallace as y.e afd W.m Roberts by their attorneys afd and the same W.m Roberts by his said attorney as before Defends the force & Injury when &.c And saith that he is not Guilty of the premises above Imposed upon him in Manner & form as y.e Plft ag.t him hath Complained & of (this) |
