March Court           1724                         268
    by the Indictm.t above is Imposed upon her says that of the felony so as
    afd upon her Imposed she is Noways guilty thereof and thereof for tryall putts herselfe
    upon the County and Levin Gale who for his said Lordship in this Behalfe prosecutes
    Likewise           Thereupon Command is given to the Sherr of Somersett County that he
Immediately Cause to Come here twelve &c by whom &c who Neither &c to Recognize &c because
as well &c of which said Preceipt the said Sherr to witt Joseph MccClester Gent makes Return
that he hath here Ready twelve &c as by his preceipt he was Commanded and the Jurors of
that Jury therein Impannelled being Called Came to witt Adam Spence Sen.r John Fleming
Peter Frazer Charles Townsend, Samuel Alexander, Underwood Rencher, Robert Mitchell
James Round, W.m Bratton, Thomas Collier, Rich.d Chambers, John Kellem who being duely
Elected tryed and sworn to say the truth in the premisses upon their Oath do say that as to the
feloniously stealing of the Bodice and one gallon of syder Brandy in the Indictm.t mentioned
the said Mary Cook is Guilty thereof but as to the Linnen Sheet and four Gallons of syder brandy
Residue of the five Gallons mentioned the said Mary Cook is not Guilty thereof
    Whereupon the Justices here valued the one Gallon of syder Brandy by the Jurors afd found to
be stolen to two shillings and six pence Curr.t money
                  Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices that the said Mary Cook pay unto Eleanor
Ervin the party deprived four fould of the value of the one Gallon of Brandy afd found to be
stolen amounting in the whole to tenn shillings Curr.t money and that the said Mary Cook be whipt
at the publick whiping post with twelve Lashes on the bare Back well Laid on untill the blood
appear and that she stand in the pillowry halfe an hour and that she be taken &c and thereupon
as to the Corporall Punishm.t afd Command is given to the Sherr of Somersett County that he doe
thereof Immediate Execution according to the Judgm.t afd Rendered by whiping the afd Mary
Cook at the publick whiping post with twelve Lashes well Laid on untill the blood appear and
by sitting her in the pillowry halfe an hour And afterwards in the same Court the Sherr Returns
that he has done the Execution of the Judgm.t afd as to the Corporall Punishm.t afd he was Commanded
       Whereupon Ephraim Willson of Somersett County Gent Master of the said Mary Cook Makes it
appear to this Court that the said Mary Cook had absented herselfe and runaway twelve days from out of
his service who is adjudged to serve seven days of one which amounts to Eighty four days Likewise
her said Master produceth an acco.t to this Court for Charges and trouble he was at in sending after and
takeing up the said Mary Cook amounting to three pounds two shillings for which the said Mary Cook is
adjudged to serve her said Master the full term of time of twelve Months which said service by the said
Mary Cook; to serve her said Master Ephraim Willson his heirs or assigns being adjudged full satisfaction
for Runaway time trouble & Charge in takeing up when Runaway ^amounts^ to twelve Months and Eighty four
