264 Upon the petition of Samuel Merchament for to have his son William Merchament Cryer of the County Court of Somersett in his Stead the said William Merchament is approved of he takeing the Oaths appointed to the Government and subscribing the Oath of abjuration & teste thereupon the said William Merchemt tooke ye Oaths appointed & subscribed the Oath of abjuration and test &c
that you he might have her body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somersett to be held at Dividing Creek the third tuesday of March then next to answer unto his said Lordship Concerning a Certain Presentment against her found &c and that thereof he should not fail &c Att which said third tuesday of March to witt the Sixteenth day of the Same month ann Dom one thousand seven hundred and Twenty four being the day of the Return of the Said Writt Cometh the Sherr of Somersett County to whom the foregoeing Writt was directed and makes return thereof to the Court here Endorsed in these words following vizt Cepi Corpus P Jos: MccClester Sherr Whereupon the said Elianor Collins in her own proper person appears and being sett to the bar (Presentm.t Read) pleads guilty and makes Oath On the holy Evangelist of almighty God that a Certaine Abrahom Dickenson is the begetter of the Child she stands presented for but hath not wherewithall to pay her fine for the fact afd Wherefore it is Considered by the Court that the said Elianor Collins be whipt at the publick whiping post with fifteen Lashes on the bare back well Laid on untill the Blood appear and as to the Corporall Punishm.t Command is given to the Sherr of Somersett County that he doe thereof Immediate Execution according to the Judgm.t afd Rendered by whiping the afd Elianor Collins at the Publick whiping post with fifteen Lashes on the bear Back well Laid on untill the blood appear and afterwards in the same Court the Sherr Return's that he has done the Execution of the Judgm.t as afd as to the Corporall Punishm.t afd he was Commanded Whereupon it ^is^ further Ordered by the Court that the said Elianor Collins return whome to her service and when her New Servitude Expired to serve her Master William Adams Eightfour full months to Commence at the End of her servitude afd it being adjudged full satisfaction (by the Court) for all trouble Charge and Loss of time by means of her having a bastard Child afd and at ye Expiration of her Servitude her said Master is Oblidged by Law to return her to the County Court of Somersett or Sher of the County to reemburst what tobacco they were Oblidged to pay for her &c
