254 gained to herselfe Nevertheless the afd Margarett not being Ignorant of the premisses Greatly Envying the happiness and good state of the said Mary and Malitiously plotting her the said Mary not Only in her good name and fame to blacken and make worse but also to Cause her Innocently to be brought into danger of forfeiting of thirty Shillings or six hundred pounds of tobacco or suffering Corporall punishment as the Law in Such Cases directs the tenth day of February ann Dom one thousand Seven hundred and twenty three at the parish and County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court these falce and scandelous words in the presence and hearing of Sundry Subjects and Liege people of Our Said Lord ye King openly and publickly of her the said Mary malitiously did Say publish and pronounce in these words following viz.t Mary Broughton (meaning her the Said Mary) is a whore for halfe a thousand of Pinn and George Lane Can say it And the afd Margarett Malitiously Plotting and Intending the Said Mary further to disturb and molest and to be brought into danger as afd In the twenty ninth day of June ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred & twenty Nine four at ye parish and County afd within the Jurisdiction afd these other falce feigned and Scandelous words to the said Mary haveing Communication and Speech with her the Said Mary in the presence & hearing of Sundry Subjects and Liege ^people^ of Our Said Lord the King to and of her the Said Mary Malitiously did say publish and pronounce viz.t you) speaking to and meaning her the said Mary) are a whore and John Duncans whore and I (meaning herselfe the said Margarett) will prove it and you (the afd Mary again Meaning) Lay with John Duncan for a thousand of pinns which said falce and scandelous words in the Common acceptation and understanding of all people bear ye following Construction and meaning as if the Said Margarett had said the Said Mary ^that the Said Mary^ was a whore and ^had^ prostituted herselfe and suffered the Said John Duncan to have Carnall Knowledge of her body for halfe a thousand of a thousand of pinns by reason of the Speaking publishing and affirming and declareing of which falce and scandelous words the said Mary Not only in the good name fame Creditt and repute afd is very much hurt but also is in danger of Looseing the favour and good will of her Neighbours and others and Sundry Sums of money and tobacco for Clearing her Innocency in that part is forced to Expende and Lay out whereupon the said Mary saith she is worse and hath damage to the value of forty pounds Curr.t mony of maryland and thereof she brings Suite &c F Allen P Qrte Pledges deps Jno Doe R Roe And the said Aaron Jordeen and Margarett his wife by George Dashiell their attorney Come and defend ye force and Injury when &c and pray Leave to Imparle hereunto untill the Next Court and they have it and the same days Given to the plft also Att which said next Court to witt the seventeenth day of November ann Dom One thousand seven hundred & twenty four Came again as well the said Mary Broughton by Bruffe Broughton her Prochein amy of the said Aaron Jordeen and Mary his wife by their attorney afd and the same attorney |
