252 support of Government and the other halfe to the Informer or him or them that should sue for the same to be recovered in any County of Record Court of this province by action of Debt bill plaint or Information wherein use Essoyn protection or wager of Law should be allowed as by the said act of assembly amongst other things doth fully appear which said act of assembly now is in full force and unrepealed Nevertheless the afd Sturges Dixon the said act of assembly Little Regarding nor the penalty in the same act Contained in any wise fearing the twenty Ninth day of aprill ann Dom One thousand seven hundred & twenty four at alhollows parish afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court a Certain Negro woman slave then and there as yett the slave of him the said Richard Hickman unlawfully absenting herselfe from the service of him the said Richard Hickman into the service of him the said Sturgess Dixon did Receive and take and her the said Negro slave Sarah Wittingly & Willingly did Entertain by the space of thirty days and thirty Nights viz.t the afd twenty ninth day of aprill in the year afd and the then next Ensuing Night & twenty nine days and nights then next Ensueing the said Sturges Dixon well Knowing the said Negro woman slave Sarah to be the slave of him the said Richard Hickman and to have unlawfully absented herselfe from his service Contrary to the form of the act of assembly afd by which and one other act of assembly made at a sessions of assembly of this province afd held at ye City of annapolis the seventeenth day of July One thousand seven hundred and sixteen Entituled an act for transferring the payments of all such fines and forfeitures as shall hereafter arise or happen upon the breach of any the penall Laws of this province to the Right honourable the Lord proprietary action hath arreved to the same Lord proprietary and ye said Richard Hickman to require and have of the said Sturges Dixon the sum of fifteen thousand pounds of tobacco Nevertheless the said Sturges Dickson tho' often Required the said fifteen thousand pounds of tobacco to the said Lord proprietary and the Said Richard Hickman who as well &c hath not rendered but the same to them hitherto to render hath denyed and still doth deny and unjustly detain whereupon the said Richard Hickman who as well &c saith he is worse and hath damage to the value of twenty thousand pounds of tobacco and thereupon as well for the said Lord proprietary as for himselfe bringeth this suite &c F Allen P Qrte quitam Pledgs dep Jno Doe R Roe Whereupon the said Sturges Dixon being Called appears and thereupon the said Sturges Dixon at the prayer of the plfts attorney afd is adjudged to give Speciall Bail to the action afd but for want thereof the said Sturges Dixon is Committed into the Custody of the Sherr of Somersett County thereto remain &c the said Sherr present here in Court took Charge of the said |
