    June Court                   1724                    194
    Contemned the same authority afd had nothing to offer in his own defence that was
    Materiall
                                              Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the said
    Richard Tiler be fined to his Lordship the Sum of five hundred pounds of tobacco for ye
    fact afd  Thereupon the Said Richard Tiler is Committed into the Custody of the sherr of
    Somersett County there to remain untill said time as he pays the fine afd and all the Officers
    fees due by occasion of the premisses afd the said sherr present here in Court ^took^ to Charge
    of the said Richard Tyler accordingly &c

 To the worshipfull his Lordship's Justices of the peace for Somersett County
now in Court sitting        the humble Pet.n of Mathew Gozlin sheweth that
Whereas your petitioner an orphan of about fifteen years of age Left
            by my father at his deceas to ye Case of Thomas Bird moved thereunto I understand by Said
    Birds promise that he would be very Kind and Carefull of me and give me good Education which
    promise he hath hitherto very Little regarded wherefore humbly Craves that your worships will
    allow me to make Choice of another man for my Guardian being very unwilling to stay Longer
    with said Thomas Bird and your Pet.n as in duty bound shall pray &c
                                                                                     Matthew Gozling
       Now hereat this day to witt the sixteenth day of June ann Dom one thousand seven hundred
    and twenty four Comes as well the said Mathew Gozlin the petitioner as the said Thomas bird
    and the Court having heard their severall allegations   Wherefore it is Considered by
    the Justices that the said Mathew Gozlin bound Continue with the said Thomas Bird
    according to ye Disire of the said Gozlins decd father the said Thomas Bird to Learn the
    said Gozlin to writt & Cypher & to find him with all such Necessarys as may be sufficient
    for him to have dureing his Continuance with the said Bird and that the said Bird
    give security for his Complying therewith &c
                Whereupon the said Thomas Bird together with James Hardy Sen his Security
    in the Acknowledged themselves to owe & stand Justly Indebted unto the said Mat
    Gozlin in the sum of ten pounds sterr Each to be Levied on their Goods & Chattles Lands
    or tenements for the use of the said Mat Gozlin  In Case the said Thomas Byrd do not
    Comply with ye Covenants above said &c
