fear of God before her Eyes not having but being seduced & Led away by the Instigation of the Devill the the day of September ann Dom one thousand seven hundred and twenty three at the parish and County afd did Comm.t fornication with a Certain person to this Judgmt unkown by Reason whereof the said Sarah Martin on the day of ann Dom one thousand seven hundred and twenty three at the parish and County afd was delivered of a bastard Child against the peace &c and against the form of an act of assembly of this province now in force in such Case made and provided &c On the Back of the foregoeing Bill of Indictm.t it was thus Endorst viz.t Bill vera Ja Mackmorie foreman
seven hundred and twenty three at the parish and County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain Person to this Inquest unknown by reason whereof the said Rebecca Gillett suffered on the tenth day of February ann Dom seventeen hundred and twenty three at the parish and County afd was delivered of a bastard Child against the peace &c and against the form of an act of assembly of this province Now in force in such Case made & provided &c L Gale P Lopy On the Backside of the foregoeing Bill of Indictm.t it was thus Endorst vizt Billa vera Adam Hitch foreman Thereupon Command is given the sherr of Somersett County that he should take the said Rachel Gillett of Coventry parish in Somersett County Spinster if she shall be found in y his Bailywick and her safe Keep so that you have her Body Before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somersett to be held at Dividing Creek in the tuesday of June ^then^ next to answer unto his Lordship Concerning a Certain Indictm.t against her found &c and that thereof he should not fail &c Att which said third tuesday of Augus June to witt the sixteenth day of the same month ann Dom One thousand seven hundred and twenty four Being ye Day of the return of the said Writt Cometh the said sher and makes return thereof Endorst vizt Cepi Corpus P Jos MccClester sher Whereupon the said Rebecca Gillett in her own proper person appears and being sett to the Barr is thereupon Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd Imposed upon her says that of the premisses afd she is Guilty thereof demands and that and ^is willing to^ pay thirty shillings for her fine for the fact afd Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices here that the said Rachell Gillett be fined to his Lordship thirty shillings for the fact afd thereupon John Gillett present in Court acknowledged himselfe in ten pounds ster to be Levied &c In Case he doth not pay the several officers there fees due to them upon the Indictmt afd &c |
