191 seven hundred and twenty three at the parish afd in the County afd the afd Jane Duckett was delivered of a bastard Child against the peace of the said Lord proprietary his good rule & dignity and also against yt form of the act of assembly in such Case made & provided &c L Gale P Lorpy On the Back side of the foregoeing Bill of Indictm.t it was thus Endorst vizt Billa vera Adam Hitch foreman Thereupon Command was given to the sherr of Somersett County that he Should take the said Jane Duckett of Stepney Parish in the County afd Spinster if she should be found in his Bailywick and her should Safe Keep so that he might have her body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somersett to be held at Dividing Creek the third tuesday of June ^then^ next to answer unto his Lordship Concerning a Certain present Inditm.t against her found and that thereof he should not fail &c Att which said third tuesday of June to witt the sixteenth day of the same month anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and twenty four being ye Day of the return of the said Writt Comes the Sherr of Somersett County to whom the foregoeing writt was directed And makes Return thereof to the Court here Endorst in these words vizt Cepi Corpus P Joseph MccClester Sherr Whereupon the said Jane Duckett in her own proper person appears and ^being^ sett to the Barr Indictmt Read is thereupon Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd says that of the premisses afd she is guilty thereof and makes oath that a Certain Hugh MccClester is the begetter of the Child she stands Indicted for and is willing to pay her fine for the fact afd Wherefore it is Considered by the Justices that the said Jane Duckett be fined to his Lordship the sum of six hundred pounds of tobacco for the fact afd thereupon the said Jane Duckett is ordered to give Security for the fine afd & all the fees that accrewed upon the Indictm.t afd unto the severall officers thereupon a Certain John Barkley present in Court acknowledged himselfe to owe & stand Justly Indebted unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary in Case he ten pounds ster to be Levied &c In Case he doth not pay the fine afd & the severall officers their fees due upon the Indictmt afd &c
Court did Committ adultery with a Certain Mary Tull Lately Called Mary Ennis against the peace of the said Lord proprietary his good rule & Dignity and also against the form of the act of assembly in such Case made & provided &c L Gale P Lorpy On the Backside of the foregoing Bill of Indictmt it was thus Endorst vizt Billa vera Adam Hitch foreman Thereupon Command was given to the sherr of Somersett County that he should take the said Benj.a Tull if he should be found in his Bailywick and him should Safe Keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somersett the third to be held at dividing Creek the third tuesday of June then Next ^to answer unto his Lordship Concerning a bill of Indictmt agt him found &c ^ and that thereof he should not fail &c (Att) |
