19 Thomas Brereton appointed Overseer to Clear a road from Costons Dam to Jervas Jenckin's &c John Ricketts appointed overseer to Clear a road from the New ferry over wickacomoco River on the North side thereof to the Main Road by Thomas Hamphere's &c
Before they agree with any Person or Persons for ye rebuilding or repairing of the same &c Thereupon it is Ordered by the Court here that M.r Joseph Gray M.r Samuel Hopkins and M.r John Purnell meett at ye said Bridge and view the same and then and there agree with some Persons or Person for the repairing or rebuilding of the said Bridge that will doe it ye Cheapest and most Substantiall which Inspection is to be made on thursday next Ensueing the date abovesaid and make their report thereof at next Court &.c Att which said next Cort to witt the thirtieth day of of aprill Ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred and twenty three ^to which day^ as the Court adjourn'd unto Comes the said Joseph Gray Samuell Hopkins and John Purnell and makes return of the abovesaid Order to the Court here Endorst vizt By Vertue of the within Order wee the Subscribers did meett at ye Place appointed and did view the Old Bridge and find it would not doe Conclude to Build anew One of the same dementions as the Old Bridge only the Posts to be Six Inches Longer well framed and Pind god Planck of three Inches Prickt and after Severall Offers M.r John Attkinson did undertake the worke and to be Compleated and finished by June Court next and if well done according to Bargained when viewed by the subscribers to be paid six thousand pounds of tobacco &.c agreed p Jos: Gray Samuel Hopkins John Purnell Testis Jno Attkins upon reading ye afd agreem.t It's ^approved of and^ ordered by the Court here that the same be recorded &c
wherefore depending upon your worships goodness and Chamercy for Pardon your humble Petitioner as in duty Bound shall Every pray The Premises afd being by the Court Considered and fully understood Its thereupon Ordered by the Justices that ye said Henry Alexander be discharged from ye Jury as by the Pet.n afd is Praid and that the sherr return another Juror in his Stead &c |
