of God before her Eyes not having but being Seduced & Led away by the Instigation of the Devill the day of Ann Dom seventeen hundred & twenty three at the Parish and County afd did Committ fornication with a Certain person to this Inquest unknown by reason whereof the said Elizabeth Burcher on the day of Ann Dom Seventeen hundred & twenty three at the Parish and County afd was delivered of a bastard Child ag.t the peace &c and against the form of an act of assembly of this province Now in force in Such Case made & provided &c On the Back of the foregoeing Bill it was thus Endorst vizt Billa Vera Jams Mackmorie Foreman Thereupon Command was given to the Sherr of Somersett County that he should take the said Elizabeth Burcher of Coventry parish in Somersett County Spinster if she should be found in his Bailywick and her should Safe Keep so that he might have her Body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somersett to be held at Dividing Creek the third tuesday of march then next to answer unto his Lordship Concerning a bill of Indictm.t against her found and that thereof he should not fail &c Att which said third tuesday of march to witt the seventeenth day of the same month ann Dom One thousand Seven hundred & twenty three being the day of the return of the afd Writt Cometh the Sherr of Somersett County and maketh return thereof to the Court here Endorst in these words vizt Cepi Corpus P Joseph MccClester Sherr Whereupon the said Elizabeth Burcher in her own proper person appears and being sett to the Barr is thereupon Instantlyth demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd above Imposed upon her says that of the premisses afd she is guilty thereof and submitts to the Mercy of the Court and makes oath that Certain Thomas Sherd is the begetter of the Child she stands Indicted for & pays thirty Shillings for her fine for the fact afd &c Therefore It is Considered by the Justices here that the said Elizabeth Burcher be fined to his Lordship thirty Shillings for the fact afd (which fine was paid ^by Mr Francis Allen^ unto M.r John Caldwell (by order of Court) on acco.t of George Greer) thereupon the said Eliza Burcher is discharged paying the severall officers their fees due by action of the premisses &c Thomas Walker, Sarah Walker sen, Sarah Walker Jun, Susannah Walker & Mary Walker appears according to their Recognizance Entered into Last Court and forasmuch as Nothing Could be Objected against them whey they should be Continue ^Longer^ Bound &c thereupon they & Every One of them were accordingly discharged from the same recognizance &c
