94 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas on the second day of June Eighteen hundred and two Charles Blair of Caroline County by deed of' manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a negro Girl named Bershaba but commonly called Bass to be free from and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and seventeen And whereas the said negro woman named Bersheba (alias Bass) hath made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and being satisfied by the oath of Robert Stevens Esquire of Caroline County afsd that the said negro woman Bershaba alias Bass for whom this certificate is made is the Identical person mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from the age expressed in said manumission she is about twenty years of age she is about five feet two inches high has a long scar on the upper part of her right arm between the elbow & wrist dark eyes of a delicate appearance and no other notable marks that I have discovered of a darkish complexion and was raised in Caroline County (she says) In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand (seal) and affixed the public seal of my office this sixteenth day of April Eighteen hundred and seventeen Jo Richardson Clk Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas on the second day of June Eighteen hundred and Two Charles Blair of Caroline County by deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit |
