88 scar under each eye of a yellowish complexion and no other notable marks which I have discovered In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand (seal) and affixed the public seal of my office this fifteenth day of August in the year of our Lord Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and Sixteen Jo Richardson Clerk of Caroline County Court Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas heretofore to wit on the twenty fourth day of December Eighteen hundred and seven William Burton of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a negroe woman named Esther to be free and at perfect liberty on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and thirteen as by the said manumission remaining of Record in Caroline County reference being thereto had may more fully appear and whereas the said negro woman named Esther hath made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to an act of assembly in such case made and provided and being satisfied by the Oath of Margaret Brown of Caroline County that the said negro woman Ether for whom this certificate is made is the identical person mentioned in the manumission afsd I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from the age expressed in said manumission she is nearly forty three years old was raised in Caroline County she is five feet two Inches high or thereabout has lost one of upper fore |
