86 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas Richard Loockerman of Caroline County by deed of manumission dated the seventh day of March in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the Records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a negro boy named Jacob to be free January 1813 and whereas the said negro man named Jacob hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and being satisfied by the oath of Thomas Baxter of the County afs.d that the said negro Jacob for whom this certificate is made is the identical person mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant his said manumission and hereby certify that from the age expressed in said manumission he is twenty ^about^ twenty eight years old was raised in Caroline County he is five feet one inch and an half inch high or thereabouts not so black as many are tolerable large age and middling white has lost one of his upper fore teeth and no other notable marks that I have discovered In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand (seal) and affixed the public seal of my office this twentieth day of July Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and sixteen Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me for by a negroe man named Peter Moor for a certificate agreeably to an act of assembly passed at November Session Eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes and molatoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon their obtaining a certificate of being free born |
