82 Mr Blunt to be from thirty eight to forty years of age And whereas the said negro woman named Alce hath this day come before me and made oath that she has lost the said Certificate and does not know of any person who has robbed her of it and that she did not deliver it to any person who and also upon the evidence of Mr Henry Meeks of the County afsd that the said negro woman Alce for whom this Certificate is made is the person above described I therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that she appears to answer the above description according to the act of assembly in such case made and provided In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the public seal of my office this 16th day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Thomas Mattee for a certificate agreeably to an act of assembly passed at November Session eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes are permitted to travel out of this State by obtaining a certificate of their being free born And whereas also upon the evidence of Seth Godwin Esquire of the County afsd that the said negro man named Thomas Mattee is free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that the aforesaid negro man named Thomas Mattee to whom this certificate is delivered is five feet nine Inches high or (nearly) has a smart scar across his right fore left fore |
