for whom this Certificate is made is the Identical person
mentioned in the manumission afsd I do therefore grant his said
application and hereby Certify that from the age expressed in
the afsd manumission he was twenty one years old in January
last past was raised partly in Caroline County he is four
feet ten Inches high or thereabout very black and no other
notable marks that I have discovered
             In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my
             hand and affixed the public seal of my office this sixteenth
(seal)     day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand
             Eight hundred and sixteen            Jo Richardson Clk

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit

Whereas heretofore to wit on the thirteenth day of
September Eighteen hundred and nine   Negro Alce
obtained from office a Certificate in the words and
of the tenor following vizt  State of Maryland Caroline
County to wit whereas a certain negro woman named Alce heretofore
to wit on the twenty seventh day of August seventeen
hundred and ninety one was manumitted by Benjamin Blunt
of Caroline County to be free from and after the first day of
January one thousand seven hundred and ninety four as by
the said manumission remaining of record in Caroline County
Court reference being thereto had will appear  And whereas the
said negro woman named alce has made application to me
for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
and upon the oath of Mr Benjamin Blunt that the said negro
woman named Alce is the identical person who was manumited
as aforesaid I do therefore certify that the said negro
woman named Alce is five feet four Inches high of a Black
complexion was raised in the State of Delaware has no notable
marks which I can discover supposed from the oath of
