Maryland Caroline County to wit

Whereas heretofore to wit on the fifth day of January
Eighteen hundred and two Charles Manship and John
Fountain of Caroline County by Deed of manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the
Records of Caroline County did manumit and set
free a negro man named Sampson to be free at the
expiration of six years from the date of the said
manumission   And whereas the said negro
man named Sampson hath made application to me
for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of
assembly in such case made and provided and
being satisfied by the oath of Walter L Fountain
of the County aforesaid that the said negro man
named Sampson for whom this certificate is made
is the identical person mentioned in the manumission
aforesaid I do therefore grant his said application
and I hereby certify that he is five feet nine and a
half inches high or thereabout of a dark complexion
rather stout and well made he is marked in the
face by the small pox and no other notable marks
that I have discovered
                In Testimony whereof I have hereto
                set my hand and affixed the public seal
                of my office this thirtieth day of January
                in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight
                hundred and sixteen

hundred and ninety one Richard Loockerman of
Caroline County by deed of manumission duly
executed acknowledged and recorded among the
records of Caroline County did manumit and
set free a negro man named Paca to be free from
and after January Eighteen hundred and eight nine
as by the said manumission remaining of record in
my office manifestly appears and whereas the said
negro man named Paca hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to
an act of assembly in such case made and provided
