State of Maryland Caroline County to wit

Whereas on the seventh day of May in the year of our lord
Eighteen hundred and one Batchelder Chance of Caroline County
afsd by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and
Recorded amongst the Records of Caroline County did manumit
and set free a negro man named Peter to be free in Eleven
years from the date of the said manumission and whereas the
said negro man named Peter hath made application to me
for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made made and provided and being satisfied
by the affirmation of Batchelder Chance of the County afsd
by whom the said manumission was executed that the said
negro man named Peter to whom this certificate is delivered is
the Identical person manumitted by him in the manumission
afsd I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify
that the said negro man named Peter is five feet six and an
half Inches high of a dark complexion was raised in Caroline
County and his age is not expressed in the manumission afsd
has no particular marks worth describing that I have
discovered
                   In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my
                   hand and affixed the public seal of my office this
    (seal)       twelfth day of September in the year Eighteen
                   hundred and fifteen

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit
    Whereas application hath been made to me by a molatto
woman named Elizabeth Carney for a Certificate agreeably
to an act of assembly of the said State passed at november session
Eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes and
molattoes are permitted to travel out of the said state upon
their obtaining a certificate of being free born and whereas also
upon the oath of Alice Hancock of the County aforesaid that
the said woman named Elizabeth Carney to whom this certificate
is delivered was free born I do therefore grant her said application
