State of Maryland
Caroline County to wit   Whereas heretofore to wit on the
twenty third day of December in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and ninety nine a certain Sarah
Hardcastle and Solomon Kenton of Caroline County
by Deed of manumission duly executed and recorded
manumitted and set free a certain negro boy called
Ned to be free and at liberty from and after the first
day of January one thousand Eight hundred and fifteen
and whereas the said negro man named Ned has made
application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeable
to the act of assembly upon the oath of
Solomon Glanding that the said negro Ned is the
identical person named in the manumission above
recited.  I hereby Certify that from the age expressed
in the manumission the said negro Ned is about
twenty five years of age on the twenty third day of
December Eighteen hundred and fourteen id five
feet seven Inches high.  Black complection was
raised in Talbot County has a large scar on
the out side of his right knee and a small scar on
the calf of his right leg occasioned by a burn and
has no other notable marks which I can discover
             In Testimony whereof I have hereto set
             my hand and affixed the public seal of my
(Seal)   office this twenty third day of August one
             thousand Eight hundred and fifteen
