State of Maryland Caroline County to wit
    Whereas application hath been made to me by a
negro man named Charles Prattis for a certificate agreeably
to and act of assembly passed at november Session Eighteen hundred
and five by which said act free negroes and molattoes are
permitted to travel out of the said state upon their obtention
of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the
oath of Caleb Clarke of Caroline County that the said negro
man named Charles Prattis to whom this certificate is delivered
was free born.  I do therefore grant his said application and
hereby certify that he is five feet six Inches high rather
of a yellow complexion he says he is forty six years old
in October next has a scar on the under part of his
right arm below his elbow occasioned by a burn  he is
tolerably well built and no other notable marks that I
have discovered
                               In Testimony whereof I have hereto
                  set my hand and affixed the public seal of my
    (Seal)     office this first day of August Eighteen Hundred
                         and fifteen               Tho Richardson Clk
                                                       Caroline County Court


       State of Maryland
    Caroline County to wit   Whereas on the sixth day of June
in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
ninety six Nathaniel Potter & William Potter of Caroline
County afsd by deed of manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded amongst the record of
Caroline County did liberate manumit and set free a
black boy by the name of Benjamin to be free from
Eighteen hundred and nine and whereas the said
Black man named Benjamin hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to
the act of assembly in such case made and provided
