State of Maryland Caroline County to wit

Whereas on the second day of June Eighteen hundred and
two Charles Blair of Caroline County afsd by deed of manumission
duly Executed acknowledged and Recorded amongst
the Records of Caroline County did manumit and set a
negro Boy named Joshua to be free from and after the first
day of January Eighteen hundred and twelve  and whereas
the said negro boy named Joshua hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the
act of assembly in such case made and provided and being
satisfied by the Oath of Robert Stevens Esq.r of Caroline County
afsd that the said negro man named Joshua to whom this certificate
is delivered is the Identical person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify
that from the age Expressed in the manumission afd he is
about twenty nine years of age he is about five feet six
Inches high has a scar on the under part of his right arm
below hs elbow and one on his right thumb he has a mark on
his left arm between his Elbow and wrist tolerably well made
and no other notable marks that I have discovered
          In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my
(seal)   hand and affixed the Public seal of my office
            this thirty first day of July Eighteen hundred and fteen
