7 County but raised from a small child in Caroline has five small scars in the left Arm between her elbow and wrist and one small one on her right Arm Just below her elbow and no other notable marks which I can discover In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the Public seal of my Office this twenty second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seven Tho Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court Caroline County to wit. Be it remembered that on this twenty second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seven I delivered to negro Samuel Hutchings in the following Certificate mentioned a Certificate of which the following is true Copy to wit State of Maryland Caroline County to wit. Whereas a certain negro man by the name of Samuel Hutchings heretofore to wit on the eleventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three and manumitted by M.r Nehemiah Saulsbury Junior of Caroline County to be free immediately thereafter as by the said manumission remaining of record in the County aforesaid will appear and whereas application is made to me by a negro man who calls himself Samuel Hutchings (and whom M.r Nehemiah Saulsbury Junior makes Oath is the identical person who was manumitted as aforesaid) for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to act of Assembly I do hereby Certify that the said negro man called Samuel Hutchings is five feet three inches and one half high and from the best information which I can receive he is about forty years of age is of a dark Complexion was born in Queen Anns County but raised from a small boy in Caroline has a scar about the middle of his left foot on the inside which he says he cut with an ax and two scars on his left wrist near his hand which he says are burns; and no other notable marks which I can discover.
