21 day of May 1807 was manumitted by M.r Jeremiah Rhodes
of Caroline County to be free on the 21 day of May 1807 as by the
said manumission will appear and by the Oath of ^afsd^ Jeremiah Rhodes
that the said negro Thomas Sewell is the identical person who was
manumitted by him as af.d and I certify that from the age expressed
in the said manumission that the afd negro is about 36 years
of age 5 feet 7¾ inches high black complexion cross eyed was
raised in Caroline COunty near Denton has a scar on his left
elbow occasioned by a burn a scar on the left hand just below
the wrist and a scar on the left cheek and no other notable
marks which I can discover:  In Witness whereof I hereto set
my hand and affix the public seal of my Office this 21 day of
May 1807   Tho Richardson C C Coty


Caroline County to wit.  Be it remembered that on the twenty second
day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seven
I delivered to Sarah Hutchings in the following Certificate mentioned
a Certificate of which the following is a true Copy to wit

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  Whereas a certain negro
Woman by the name of Sarah Hutchings heretofore to wit on the
second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seven was manumitted by M.r Nehemiah Saulsbury jn.r of
Caroline County to be free immediately thereafter as by the said manumission
remaining of record in the County aforesaid will appear; And
whereas application is made to me by a negro woman who calls herself
Sarah Hutchings (and whom M.r Nehemiah Saulsbuiry jn.r makes
oath is the identical person who was manumitted by him as aforesaid
for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to act of Assembly.  I do hereby
Certify that the said negro Woman called Sarah Hutchings is
five feet two and one quarter inches high and from the age expressed in
the manumission aforesaid is twenty seven years of age or thereabout
is of a very dark though not black complexion was born in Queen Anns
