50 to the act of assembly; and upon the Oath of Anthony Ross that the said negro man named Jacob is the Identical person who was manumited as aforesaid: I do hereby certify that the said negro man named Jacob is of a very black complection was raised in Caroline County is five feet five inches high has large plump Eyes big mouth and thick lips with a flat nose and is a well set fellow has no notable marks which I can discover In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the public seal (seal) of my office this fifth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Eleven Tho Richardson Clk of Caroline County Caroline County to wit Be it remembered that on the twenty second October 1811 I delivered to negro Elizabeth a Certificate as follows viz State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas Negro Elizabeth otherwise called Elizabeth Thomas desirous of travelling out of the County and state of her nativity hath made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to act of assembly in such case made and provided. I do therefore upon the evidence of Mr Thomas Hardcastle satisfactory to my mind that the said negro woman called Elizabeth otherwise Elizabeth Thomas was born free hereby Certify that the said negro woman from the said deed aforesaid was born free that she was raised partly in Caroline & partly in Talbott Counties is now about twenty seven years of age five feet two inches high light complexion has lost her upper fore Teeth and nearly all her Jaw Teeth has a very remarkable scar occasioned (as she says) by a burn on the outter part of the left hand about the Joints of the two last fingers and no other notable marks which I can discover In Testimony whereof |
