set free a certain negro boy called Dick to be free on the first
day of January one thousand eight hundred and eleven

       And Whereas the said negro Dick hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to act of assembly

       I do therefore upon the Oath of Mr Henry Moody that the
said negro Dick to whom this Certificate is delivered is the identical
person mentioned by that name in the manumission
above recited Certify that from the appearance of said Dick
and his own information he is between twenty one and twenty
two years of age he is five feet six Inches high a Stout Chunky
well set fellow very black Complexion was raised in Caroline
County has a small scar on the upper part of his Belly near
the Pit of the Stomach and several others of the same kind
in different parts occasioned (as he says) by the Chicken
Pox he has also a scar on the back of his left hand near
his wrist occasioned (as he says) by a burn and no other
notable mark which I can discover         In Testimony
                whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed
                the public seal of my office this twenty eighth
    (seal)    day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand
                eight hundred and eleven

Caroline County to wit  Be it remembered that on the
5th June 1811 I delivered to the negro man therein named
the following certificate viz

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit whereas
a certain negro man named Jacob heretofore to wit
on the seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and three was manumitted by
John Mitchell of Caroline County to be free from and
after the first day of January eighteen hundred and six
as by the said manumission remaining of Record
in Caroline County Court reference being thereto had
will more fully and at large appear.  And whereas
the said negro man named Jacob hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably
