48 of Caroline County manumitted liberated and set free a certain negro man called Thomas otherwise called Thomas Moody to be free and at liberty from the date of the said manumission. And whereas the said Thomas otherwise called Thomas Moody hath made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to act of Assembly I do therefore upon the Oath of Mr James Horney that the said negro man called Thomas otherwise Thomas Moody is the identical person named in the manumission by him given as above recited I Certify that from the appearance of the said negro man he is about twenty five or thirty years of age he is five feet five Inches high tolerable dark Complexion a small very smart lively pert looking fellow has a scar on the top of his right foot near the inner side occasioned by the cut of an ax and a scar on his right leg and no other notable marks which I can discover and the said negro man was raised in Caroline County near Denton. In Testimony whereas I have hereto set my hand and (Seal) affixed the public seal of my office this eleventh day of May one thousand eight hundred and eleven Tho Richardson Clk Caroline County Court Caroline County to wit Be it remembered that on the 28 May 1811 I delivered to the negro man therein named the following Certificate Viz State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas heretofore to wit on the twenty fifth day of October in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety one Mary M Nicols & Henry Nicols 3rd of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and Recorded amongst the Records of Caroline County manumitted and |
